Marvin Engineering Company · Los Angeles Metropolitan Area · 1 mo ago
Engineering$155k–$205k/yrFull-time

About the role

This position requires a strong background in Electrical Engineering/Design/Analysis with an emphasis on high reliability electronic hardware development (military avionics) including standard bus interface, power switching for solenoids and motor drives, and analog inputs and conversion circuits. The ideal candidate will have experience in the design, analysis, build, and testing embedded control modules that may include application-specific firmware implemented in FPGAs and/or microprocessors to control various discrete switches, sensors as well as driving solenoids and AC, DC motors. The candidate should have a broad background emphasizing work with embedded controllers for electro-mechanical devices and subsystems, preferably for use in military or commercial aviation. Knowledge of airborne weapon systems and/or weapon carriage equipment is strongly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Decompose system requirements to electronic subsystem requirements via implementable design trades and analysis
  • Define conceptual design architecture, generate functional/structural block diagrams, and I/O definitions for embedded electronics for Line Replacement Units (LRU)
  • Design and develop high reliability circuits on multi-layered Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) for the ECU and other embedded modules
  • Perform schematic design capture, component selections and generate BOMs
  • Simulate and analyze board circuits using simulation tools – LTSpice, Qspice, etc.
  • Perform PCB design layout and generate DFM package for fabrication
  • Oversee HW assembly and generate Assembly Instructions as needed for initial and rework of the hardware
  • Define test requirements (V&V) and perform board level Verification and Validation testing
  • Perform CCA level design verification testing and deliver to the next level integration with all required test documentation
  • Generate documentation for design and test including design specifications, test plan/procedures/reports, L4/5 V&V
  • Support various programmatic and technical reviews – Requirements Review, Concept Review, PDR, CDR, Manufacturing Readiness Review, TRR
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum BSEE, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering and a minimum of 8 years' experience in relevant development environment, preferably for military or commercial aviation
  • Knowledge of end-to-end FPGA and embedded controller firmware/software development – design, build, and V&V process for high reliability (flight) electronics
  • Proficient in Hardware Description Language (VHDL, Verilog), SystemVerilog, C, C++
  • Proficient in simulation, synthesis, device-specific implementation tools such as Questa, Synplify, etc.
  • Ability to perform static timing analysis, constraints for synthesis, and back-annotated (gate-level) simulation
  • Experience with 1553B BCRT design by either custom or drop-in core and back-end interface logic for application-specific embedded controls – solenoids, motor drivers, power discrete switching, analog inputs, ADC scanning logic, etc.
  • Experience with developing logical interface for SPI, I2C, UART, DMA, CAN, processor local bus, etc.
  • Experienced with debugging prototypes using test equipment and other debug tools
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Proof of Education is required

Preferred qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting DoD acquisition programs and/or aerospace systems development
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-1553B Bus Protocol, Physical, and Logical layer implementation
  • Familiarity with AS9100, MIL-STD-810, or other DoD and Aerospace quality and compliance standards
  • Experience with Microsemi, Altera, STMicroelectronics, Intel, ARM architecture platform (Cortex M7/4 MCU)
  • Experience with developing logical interface for SPI, I2C, UART, DMA, CAN, processor local bus, etc.
  • Experience with military/high reliability electronics subsystem development
  • Knowledge of airborne weapon systems and/or weapon carriage equipment
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP
