Electrical Engineering Technician (Design), Level IV

About the role
This position supports the Y-12 Division Managed Design Engineering Field Design Support group, primarily drafting in Bentley MicroStation and collaborating with electrical engineers and other CAD drafters.
Responsibilities
- Draft one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, lighting/power plans, installation details, Instrumentation and Controls Diagrams, conduit/cable schedules, fire alarm, and communication drawings.
- Prepare data sheets, specifications, and walkdown reports.
- Support construction and operational activities related to design outputs.
- Conduct field walkdowns, occasionally in radiological contaminated areas.
- Provide work direction and planning for other technicians, acting as a subject-matter expert.
Little to no (<5%) travel is expected. Typical work schedule is Monday–Thursday, 10-hour days (4/10 schedule).
Requirements
- Associate’s or higher degree in a technical field and 10–15 years of related experience, or a high school diploma and 20+ years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and skills in the technical specialty.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Q-clearance from the Department of Energy (position is identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse Program testing role with ongoing random drug testing).
- U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age, and ability to meet pre-employment requirements, including physicals, drug screen, and background investigation.
- Experience with low and medium voltage power distribution and industrial control systems.
- Familiarity with NFPA 70, NFPA 79, and UL508A.
This position is contingent upon contract award and funding; selected applicants may receive an offer but cannot begin work until funding is confirmed.
