Electrical Engineering Co-op

Sappi, Cloquet Operations, is seeking an energetic, self-motivated Electrical Engineering student for a nine-month, full-time paid co-op position starting in January 2026. This role offers hands-on experience in a pulp and paper mill environment.

About the Role

The co-op engineer will collaborate with Electrical Engineers to perform tasks within the mill, progressing from initial training to engineering duties under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Initial Training:
  • Learn and provide CAD drafting services and document management support under the supervision of the Lead Project Engineer and/or Lead Designer.
• Duties:
  • Computer Aided Drafting – Create layout and detailed drawings for Electrical, Instrumentation, and general engineering design.
  • Document Management Support – Handle distribution, filing, and maintenance of all drawings and associated documents.
  • Complete all company safety training.
• Engineering Duties:
  • Assist an assigned Engineer in planning and implementing projects to improve production efficiency.
  • Support special projects and presentations as requested.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in an accredited engineering program with a minimum of 2 years completed and a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Microsoft Word and Excel experience required.
• Experience with Microsoft Access, Microsoft Project, Microsoft FrontPage, Autodesk ACAD, and Autodesk Inventor is desirable.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a respectful, consistent, and fair manner.
• Good organizing, planning, and coordinating abilities.
• Creativity in developing new methods for displaying and presenting documentation (e.g., drawings, pictures, text).
• Valid driver’s license with a demonstrated safe driving record.
