Duties
- Provide engineering support for motors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Motor Control Centers (MCCs), and low-voltage power distribution systems, including troubleshooting, performance evaluations, upgrades, testing, and maintenance activities.
- Design and upgrade facility systems and components.
- Review and approve system design changes/modifications.
- Oversee assigned system operations, testing, and maintenance.
- Ensure operation of assigned system is within established operating limits and safety analysis.
- Review changes to the plant configuration (i.e., modifications, design change notices) to determine impact to design of the facility, safety basis assumptions or analysis, facility operations, and facility operating procedures.
- Perform Engineering Evaluations of equipment and systems for performance, safety, and deficiencies.
- Perform calculations and develop engineering calculation reports.
- Provide support to resolve any corrective actions or deficiency identified in the corrective action tracking system related to engineering assignments.
- Physical ability to perform system walk-downs in the field including but not limited to, climbing ladders within facility.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Nuclear, chemical or wastewater facility experience.
- A minimum of five (5) to twenty (20) years’ experience related to engineering discipline (electrical) and/or field/system engineering.
- Experience with industrial electrical systems including motors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Motor Control Centers (MCCs), and low-voltage power distribution systems (600V and below).
- Experience troubleshooting, evaluating, specifying, or modifying VFD-controlled motor systems in an operating industrial, chemical, wastewater, nuclear, or manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Design or Facility Electrical Engineering experience to include electrical equipment specifications, calculation software and hands-on equipment and/or procurement experience OR experience in low voltage electrical distribution (less than 600 V), motors, VFDs, MCCs, and coordination studies.
- Working knowledge of NQA-1 requirements applicable to specifications and design.
- Previous SRS or another DOE site experience
- Working knowledge of 10 CFR 830.
