ELECTRICAL ENGINEER V

About the role

The Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP), Building Division, Electrical Code Branch seeks a registered professional Electrical Engineer to review complex and major building electrical projects.

Responsibilities

• Ensure electrical plans comply with the National Electric Code and applicable regulations.
• Evaluate new or alternate materials and devices for safety and suitability in buildings and structures.
• Work with architects, engineers, and the public to ensure electrical designs meet code and answer questions about design.
• Cook with electrical inspectors to ensure field installations match approved plans and code requirements.
• Explain electrical engineering decisions in writing and recommend updates to the electrical code as needed.

Requirements

• Education: Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an engineering specialty.
• Experience: One year of registered professional electrical engineering experience.
• Desirable Experience: Experience reviewing or designing electrical systems for buildings or building infrastructure, familiarity with electrical codes and electrical plan review processes.

• Applicable Skills Needed: Applying electrical engineering principles and practices to building projects, evaluating and reviewing electrical system designs, interpreting and applying the National Electrical Code, reviewing electrical plans and specifications for buildings and structures, analyzing electrical designs and checking calculations, preparing engineering reports and written correspondence, communicating effectively with architects, engineers, contractors, and the public.

Skills

• License Requirement: Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license, as required. Possession of a valid license as a professional Electrical Engineer in the State of Hawaii.
