Electrical Engineer – Renewable Natural Gas (RNG)

About the Position - Responsibilities & Duties

  • Engineering Design & Procurement (Office-based Responsibilities)
    • Support the development and review of electrical design deliverables in collaboration with external engineering firms, ensuring adherence to internal standards as well as all applicable codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
    • Participate in detailed design reviews for medium/low voltage systems, grounding and bonding systems, instrumentation, and control system architecture.
    • Support the development of electrical interconnection packages for utility tie-ins, generator interfaces, and load distribution systems.
    • Perform system-level functional analyses to ensure safety, reliability, and ease of operation.
    • Define hardware architecture and contribute to the specification of control panels, VFDs, instrumentation, and SCADA/PLC systems.
    • Specify, evaluate, and procure electrical and instrumentation equipment, including vendor selection and cost optimization.
    • Prepare technical documentation to support permitting, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Construction, Testing & Commissioning (Field-based Responsibilities)
    • Travel to supplier facilities and project sites to supervise electrical equipment manufacturing, installation, and testing.
    • Support on-site construction teams to ensure compliance with design specifications and electrical safety standards.
    • Support the inspection and acceptance of delivered electrical and automation equipment.
    • Plan and execute instrumentation and electrical functional tests, including power distribution checks, loop checks, and interlock verifications.
    • Conduct and document communication and control systems testing, including SCADA, PLC, and remote monitoring system functionality.
    • Prepare and execute Elements Important to Safety (EIS) test procedures in coordination with HSE and commissioning teams.
    • Develop and maintain operating documents, electrical drawings, and commissioning records for each site.
    • Participate in plant commissioning activities.
  • Operations & Reliability Support
    • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams post-commissioning to troubleshoot EIA-related issues and optimize plant performance.
    • Monitor electrical system performance and contribute to root cause analysis for system failures or anomalies.
    • Provide remote and on-site technical support for planned and corrective maintenance activities.

    About You - Qualifications & Skills

    • A bachelor’s or master’s (preferred) degree in electrical engineering.
    • A minimum of 4 years of previous experience in an electrical engineer role supporting full project lifecycles from FEED to commissioning and operations within the oil and gas industry or a closely related industry.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to build and maintain effective relationships as well as the ability to prepare technical documentation and lead technical discussions with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Strong knowledge of:
      • Electrical systems design and maintenance including electrical power distribution, transformers, switchgears, circuit breakers, motor control & drives, and power quality & reliability.
      • Electrical and control systems engineering principles to control systems for monitoring plant operations, ensuring safety, and maintaining optimal plant performance.
      • Applicable US electrical and instrumentation standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, ISA).
      • Strong commitment to electrical safety, familiarity with risk assessments, and application of safe work practices in industrial settings.
    • Technical skills in the areas of:
      • Process engineering (P&ID, PFD, Hazop, functional analysis, etc.) and mechanical engineering (piping, pressure vessels, etc.).
      • Industrial instrumentation systems including instrument selection & calibration, gas quality monitoring instrumentation, control loops, and feedback systems.
      • Industrial automation and control systems including supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, programmable logic control (PLC) systems, distributed control systems (DCS), and sensor integration.
      • System integration and communication including the integration of electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems, communication protocols, and cybersecurity for industrial control systems (ICS).
      • Experience with common industrial control platforms such as Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Schneider Electric systems.
      • Hands-on experience with site commissioning, equipment installation, and field troubleshooting of EIA systems.
    • The ability to accommodate +/- 20% domestic (US) travel time (including overnight stays) is required. Some international travel may also be required.
