Responsibilities
- Lead the design and analysis of complex electrical systems for multiple project types such as office, multifamily, mixed-use, retail, & hospitality projects.
- Responsible for the development of design documents and reports, including electrical layouts, rise diagrams, life safety and emergency backup power systems, electrical system calculations, fire alarm, solar, and lighting design systems.
- Daily interaction and collaboration on multi-disciplinary teams, with interaction across Kimley-Horn offices.
- Prepare project book or sheet specifications, electrical construction cost estimates, supporting the growth of electrical engineering service areas in the local market and across the country.
- Expected to assist in mentoring, training, and growing younger electrical engineering staff.
- Coordinate with architects, owners, and other consultants with design related items.
- Perform power system studies like short circuit analysis, coordination studies, and arc flash risk assessments in compliance with safety standards like NFPA 70E.
Qualifications
- 5+ years experience in an Electrical Engineering role.
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months) is preferred but not required.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Understanding of the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE and ANSI Standards.
- Willingness to travel to support site visits and client meetings, as needed.
- Ability to work in a team; both collaborating with and mentoring junior staff.
- Preferred Experience in multiple project types such as office, hospitality, retail, mixed use, Highrise design, multifamily, and some solar design.
- Experience in leading the electrical engineering design.
- Proficiency in Revit & AutoCAD.
- Experience in power system analysis using SKM, ETAP, or equivalent.
- Experience in lighting designs and photometrics using AGI32, or equivalent.
