About the role

The Computing Products Department in the Avionics business unit is seeking an Electrical Engineer to develop digital hardware for high-performance computing products such as Processing Computers and Network switch products for Commercial avionics platforms. This role involves designing circuit boards, supporting product recertification, identifying cost savings, troubleshooting field equipment, and managing obsolescence.

Responsibilities

  • Design circuit and board layouts to support the product lifecycle.
  • Work through product recertification (TSO or PMA) driven by minor or major changes.
  • Extract cost-saving solutions to reduce the overall standard cost of the product.
  • Support production to achieve on-time delivery goals.
  • Resolve product issues and technical inquiries from OEM customers.
  • Troubleshoot returned equipment from the field or OEM assembly line.
  • Evaluate product part change notifications (e.g., obsolete parts, end-of-life parts).
  • Assess designs for Design to Cost (DTC+), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and Design for Test (DFT).
  • Perform requirements capture, tracing, and verification.

What You Will Learn

  • Airborne Electronic Hardware (including FPGA, CPLD, ASICs).
  • Embedded processing resources (PowerPC, Intel, and ARM).
  • Avionics interfaces (including ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, I2C, SPI, Ethernet).
  • Video interfaces (including SMPTE, analog, DVI, DisplayPort).

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • Previous or current experience in an Electrical Engineering role.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with digital electronics design principles.
  • Schematic capture experience for creation of digital circuits.
  • Printed circuit board (PCB) design layout experience.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage through unexpected events.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to produce clear and concise technical documentation.
  • Experience with Ethernet, I2C, USB, LVDS, and SERDES bus technologies.
  • Experience with high-speed memory interfaces.
  • Qualification testing experience in DO-160.
  • Design tools experience for signal integrity and timing analysis.
  • Capable of hands-on troubleshooting using engineering lab equipment.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $68,900 – $131,100 USD. The range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Factors considered include role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
