Electrical Engineer – Consulting Engineering

Key Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems including power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, emergency and standby power, UPS, renewable energy systems, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems (IT, security, access control, life safety).
• Prepare, review, and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
• Apply sound engineering principles, standard methodologies, and industry best practices to solve complex design challenges.
• Cook with clear verbal and written communication.
• Design and specify system components to meet project requirements, budgets, and schedules.
• Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and field conditions for conformance with contract documents.

Pre-design & Design Support

• Review existing as-built documentation and perform field investigations.
• Prepare feasibility studies, schematic designs, and early-stage engineering concepts.
• Develop single-line diagrams, load calculations, and system layouts.
• Perform energy and power system calculations, modeling, and analysis (as applicable).
• Support coordination of design schedules and multidisciplinary deliverables.

Advanced / Senior-Level Responsibilities

• Lead small to medium-sized projects from concept through construction.
• Prepare complex power system studies (Short Circuit, Coordination, Arc Flash).
• Prepare construction estimates, specifications, and technical narratives.
• Mentor junior engineers and support technical development within the team.
• Participate in client engagement and business development activities.

Experience & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field.
• Previous experience in MEP consulting engineering (additional experience required for senior-level roles).
• Experience designing electrical systems for commercial, institutional, or healthcare projects.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD required; Revit experience preferred.
• Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable building codes.
• FE/EIT registration preferred; PE licensure or ability to obtain PE is a plus.
• Experience with healthcare codes (HCAI/OSHPD) and Net Zero / sustainable design is a plus.
• LEED Accreditation is a plus.
