Electrical Engineer - Buildings

This position is based in our Philadelphia, PA office.

About the role

Our Buildings team is seeking a talented Electrical Engineer / Project Designer to join our multidisciplinary team and deliver impactful design solutions for clients across a variety of market sectors. You will work as part of a team on larger projects and lead smaller projects under the guidance of a lead Senior Engineer/Designer.

Responsibilities

• Creates electrical design documentation for the electrical discipline using Revit, AutoCAD, and other relevant software programs, providing direction to junior staff to convey design intent and expectations.
• Provides direct supervision to assigned staff to develop their skills and abilities through guidance and mentorship.
• Leads in the development of a design through sketches, engineering calculations, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
• Prepares and reviews documentation in various project phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.
• Coordinates with other building disciplines (architectural, structural, mechanical, civil, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
• Performs advanced calculations (or reviews calculations performed by others) of building elements and electrical systems using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
• Performs field work (or reviews field work performed by others) to assess existing facility conditions and review contractor work.
• Leads engineering construction administration duties, including review of shop drawings and submittals, responding to RFIs, interfacing with clients/contractors, and preparing site observation/punch list reports.
• Leads in the evaluation and selection of building electrical systems/materials and development of job-specific discipline specifications.
• Attends project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
• Participates in value engineering and basic cost estimating exercises.
• Applies technical expertise to meet project requirements within established timeframes and budget.
• Provides client consultation, leveraging professional expertise and knowledge of Stantec's services.
• Nurtures existing client relationships and proactively pursues opportunities for new business.
• Acts as a resource for staff at all levels in technical expertise, training them on software, codes, field work, and design processes.
• Maintains current knowledge of technologies and trends relevant to project and market types.
• Implements sustainable design principles into building design and the surrounding environment.

Requirements

• Thorough understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas.
• Solid understanding and knowledge of power distribution systems, lighting systems, fire alarm, and low voltage systems for the built environment.
• Experience in the construction industry and/or in-depth knowledge of construction processes, including construction administration roles.
• Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
• Ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects.
• Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines.
• Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as NFPA Standards, International Building Codes, and applicable Energy Codes.
• Strong client communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple overlapping projects and design teams while maintaining project execution and schedule.
• Ability to recognize technical problems and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
• Ability to check work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
• Ability to provide direction and feedback to junior staff following established processes.
• Ability to collaborate in project team settings and engage in creative and critical thought.
• Ability to develop sketches, drawings, building programs, and other materials for junior staff.
• Ability to produce calculations based on project-specific parameters (e.g., load calculations, short circuit studies, lighting calculations).
• Ability to produce reports and studies, as well as interpret findings from reports prepared by others.
• Ability to produce project-specific technical specifications independently from an industry or office standard master specification.
• Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD as drafting/design tools.
• Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with AGI 32, SKM, and Newforma is advantageous.
• Working knowledge of low voltage systems such as telecommunications, security, and fire alarm is advantageous but not required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a lighting/electrical emphasis.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in the construction industry preferred.
• Professional Engineering license is not required but pursuance of future licensure is encouraged.
• LEED Green Associate or LEED AP certification is not required but pursuance of future certification is encouraged.

Pay

$100,000.00 - $145,000.00 annually (varies by location).
