About the role

The Electrical Engineer II position at Metra requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and at least five years of relevant experience, with a focus on power, lighting, and control systems. Candidates must also have three years of indirect supervisory experience, including responsibilities such as employee management, task assignment, training, performance monitoring, and conflict resolution.

Responsibilities

• Prepare electrical design packages (drawings, specifications, and technical calculations) for power and lighting systems.
• Ensure compliance with all Metra facilities' electrical standards.
• Supervise and coordinate activities of construction contractors and provide guidance and supervision for design projects prepared by outside consultants.
• Provide cost estimates and cost studies for capital and maintenance projects to ensure accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
• Develop project and construction schedules.
• Complete Grant Development's project request forms to secure funding for proposed capital projects.
• Operate a vehicle and be available to work flexible hours, including early mornings, late nights, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Five years of experience in the Electrical Engineering field, with a focus on power, lighting, and control systems.
• Three years of indirect supervisory experience, including responsibilities such as employee management, task assignment, training, performance monitoring, and conflict resolution.
• Prior railroad experience and knowledge of the 1500VDC traction power system is preferred.
• Expertise with construction methods and ability to assist in construction management activities such as site preparation, construction inspection, supervision, problem resolution, and knowledge of train operations.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, preferably Word and Excel.
• Experience using AUTOCADD or MicroStations operations.
• Experience using Adobe CS3 is preferred.
• Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to work with various engineering departments, utilities, freight railroads, and governmental agencies.
• A current valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

Candidates must maintain a current valid driver’s license. Metra employees in an active review period under the current discipline policy or those with documented attendance or performance issues will not be considered for this position.

Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of AUTOCADD or MicroStations operations.
• Experience with Adobe CS3.

Pay

The final salary will depend on the candidate's qualifications. Those with 8 years or more of required experience can expect offers up to the midpoint of the salary range. Metra provides full pay ranges so candidates can consider their growth potential.

Schedule

This position requires flexibility to work early mornings, late nights, afternoons, evenings, and weekends as needed.
