Electrical Designer - Automation
About the Role
An electrical designer develops electrical systems and detailed drawings for various projects, working closely with engineers to ensure compliance with safety codes and standards. They utilize CAD software to create wiring diagrams, schematics, and layouts, and assist in selecting electrical components and equipment. The role involves updating drawings based on engineering or customer feedback, coordinating with vendors to order wiring diagrams and harnesses, and providing technical support during manufacturing and installation.
Responsibilities
- Create wiring diagrams and layouts for control panels such as SCADA, PLC, HMI, and Power Management Systems
- Design custom products to meet specifications
- Order and verify wiring diagrams and harnesses from vendors
- Update drawings and project bills of materials per feedback
- Address shop questions and provide design clarifications
- Complete "As Built" drawings and support project documentation
- Participate in training to learn policies, procedures, and standards
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- 0-3 years of engineering/design experience
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Oracle)
- Basic CAD and electrical drawing interpretation skills
- Knowledge of electrical codes such as NEC and ANSI
- Ability to order materials electronically
Preferred Skills
- Experience with control panel design
- Spanish language skills
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Primarily office-based with temperature-controlled conditions; some outside activity and travel may occur. Requires ability to sit, stand, walk, and handle physical tasks such as climbing stairs and maintaining balance.
