About the role

With minimal supervision, this role performs a variety of moderately-difficult to difficult drafting and design assignments, applying advanced drafting and fundamental design techniques in accordance with company and industry standards. Detailed instructions are provided for assignments involving basic design concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares moderately-difficult to difficult engineering and construction drawings for complete project phases using manual and computer-assisted drafting/design techniques, often with minimal information or rough sketches.
  • Performs discipline design tasks requiring application of fundamental engineering concepts and mathematical formulas, including material needs calculations and development of minor design elements.
  • Reviews manufacturers' and fabricators' prints for conformance with contract specifications.
  • Performs routine checking and verification tasks.
  • Supports field assignments as required.

Requirements

  • High school graduate with vocational/technical training in basic drafting technology (or equivalent working knowledge/experience), or a 2-year degree in drafting/design technology.
  • Minimum 6 years of related experience (or equivalent) for candidates with vocational/technical training, or 5 years for those with a 2-year degree.
  • Proficiency in utilizing CADD equipment for a variety of assignments.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and write routine reports, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including calculations of proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and application of basic algebra and geometry.

Physical Demands

  • Primary work environment is a business office with moderate noise.
  • Occasional visits to operating plants or construction sites may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.
