Electrical Designer

About the role

Harriman promotes a holistic and inclusive approach to design, and our electrical team works closely with our other internal architectural and engineering studios to develop high-level, efficient, and coordinated designs. Our electrical design staff also work directly with prime engineering clients on a diverse group of project types. We are looking for a collaborative and innovative electrical designer who enjoys working with a team that is passionate about the built environment.

Responsibilities

• Work under the supervision of a licensed engineer to learn and become proficient in all aspects of electrical design.
• Perform tasks requiring independent judgment, including calculations, equipment selection, application of code requirements, and applying design methods to proposed project plans.
• Take on tasks with less specific instruction and perform specific project tasks or complete small projects independently.
• Complete small projects or portions of larger projects with minimal instruction, with review by a licensed engineer.
• Work cooperatively with the Project Manager, Project Assistant, and licensed engineer to ensure the successful completion of all phases of the project.
• Investigate and/or visit existing structures to determine applicable conditions.

Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of experience.
• Familiarity with the principles of engineering, knowledge of advanced math, physics, and electrical science applicable to the field.
• Undergraduate Degree (2 years minimum) in Electrical Engineering (other engineering degrees to be considered on a case-by-case basis).
• Familiarity with the basic structure of an engineering project and its elements.
• Proficiency with the tools required to achieve project completion (e.g., software, reference documents, calculations, and contacts).
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Proficiency with Revit.
• Proficiency with PDF editing software such as Adobe or Bluebeam.
• Capability to utilize additional software as needed to perform complex calculations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
