About the role

Grayhill designs and manufactures intuitive human interface solutions that make life simpler, safer and more efficient. We incorporate standard products—optical encoders, rotary switches, keypads, joysticks, displays, touchscreens, and pushbuttons—into control panels for major customers in the Healthcare, Agriculture, Construction Equipment, and Military markets. This Electrical Engineer role is part of our Healthcare Solutions team.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new products and modify or improve existing products within budgetary constraints, customer requirements, and product life-cycle considerations.
  • Select materials and, in conjunction with Manufacturing, determine assembly methods.
  • Requisition parts, supplies, services, and tooling as needed.
  • Analyze circuit-card assemblies (CCAs) for root cause and develop corrective-action responses; complete corrective actions and submit for approval.
  • Provide technical assistance to the Sales Department for quotations.
  • Create complete working drawings when a project is released from Engineering to Production.
  • Test and evaluate designs; provide product specifications or test data as required.
  • Analyze test data and reports to determine if designs meet functional and performance specifications.
  • Provide the Sales Department with special design/price requests (SD/PRs).
  • Recommend new products and/or modifications and improvements to existing products.
  • Interface with customers to clarify design objectives and communicate updates to the Sales Department.
  • Recommend suppliers or outside sources for technical information to meet design objectives and communicate findings to the Purchasing Department.
  • Accept or reject parts, assemblies, and/or tooling.
  • Provide technical support to internal and external customers.
  • Adhere to Grayhill’s release-to-production protocols.
  • Coach and mentor associates assigned to projects.
  • Travel expected (10%), with some international.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of two years of related experience and/or training.
  • Experience designing robust immunity and low EMI per FCC and CE standards.
  • Experience with design and documentation requirements for medical products.
  • Root-cause analysis using 8D methodology.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with embedded microcontroller and microprocessor design.
  • Ability to interpret customer requirements and develop detailed design documents.
  • Strong understanding of EMI and EMC mitigation.
  • Development of LCD interfaces.
  • Proficiency with C/C++.
  • Experience designing for MIL-STD-3009 lighting requirements.
  • Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
  • Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA).
