Electrical Design Engineer, HV/MV Engineering
About the role
Amazon Web Services Infrastructure Services is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join a global engineering team responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. You will support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to AWS services. The team collaborates with software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to deliver high standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost.
Responsibilities
- Participate in site selection reviews for new data center locations.
- Design data center substations and collaborate with other disciplines to create construction document sets.
- Create designs that meet or exceed quality requirements and fall within budgetary constraints.
- Work with local utilities to define site utility requirements.
- Review and approve equipment submittals.
- Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests before and during construction.
- Work with commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
- Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.
- Travel to sites for reviews, collaborate with onsite field engineers, and provide engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits, and startup support as needed.
- Offer creative, out-of-the-box solutions to complex problems.
Requirements
- 4+ years of industrial or commercial electrical engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience with building codes and regulations relevant to your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts from exploration and development through deployment or mass production.
- Ability to read, interpret, and create construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
Work environment and travel
This position is based in Seattle, WA. Travel to AWS data centers throughout the Americas region is required, with domestic travel up to 25% of the time. International support and some international travel may be necessary, including working with international teams and developing schematic and design document packages. Understanding of international electrical design requirements is helpful but not required.
