Electrical Design Engineer, Data Center Engineering
About the role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles to help deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
As an Electrical Design Engineer at Amazon Web Services, you will be part of a global engineering team responsible for designing and innovating our rapidly expanding data center footprint. You’ll work on multi-million dollar designs, collaborate across disciplines, and drive continuous advancements in electrical distribution systems to achieve world-class uptime for our customers.
Responsibilities
- Design data center electrical systems and collaborate with other disciplines to create construction document sets.
- Create designs that meet or exceed quality requirements while staying within budgetary constraints.
- Work with local agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes.
- Review and approve equipment submittals and define critical equipment specifications.
- Provide technical support for information requests before and during construction phases.
- Work with commissioning teams to test and validate the installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
- Manage concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
- Travel to sites (up to 20% of the time) for reviews, audits, and startup support, collaborating with field engineers.
- Offer creative, out-of-the-box solutions to engineering challenges.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of critical data center/mission-critical mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience in data center/mission-critical design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center/mission-critical equipment and facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer License.
- Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
- 4+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.

Pay
The base salary range for this position is:
- USA, GA, Atlanta: $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually
- USA, OH, Columbus: $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually
- USA, TX, Austin: $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually
- USA, VA, Herndon: $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually
- USA, WA, Seattle: $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually
