Electrical Design Engineer, Data Center Engineering
About the role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles to help deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
As an Electrical Design Engineer at Amazon Web Services, you will be part of a global engineering team responsible for designing and innovating our rapidly expanding data center footprint. You will design resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution systems, justify technical decisions to senior management, and drive continuous advancements in our designs. This role offers the opportunity to own and drive change, work on multi-million dollar projects, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems.
Responsibilities
- Design data center electrical systems and collaborate with other disciplines to create construction document sets.
- Create designs that meet quality and budgetary requirements.
- Work with local agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes.
- Review and approve equipment submittals.
- Define project scope and provide technical support during construction phases.
- Work with commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
- Manage concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
- Travel to sites for reviews, work with field engineers, and provide engineering evaluations, audits, and startup support as needed.
- Offer creative, out-of-the-box solutions to challenges.
Requirements
- 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience in building/facility infrastructure design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
- Ability to work on concurrent projects across multiple regions.
- Up to 20% travel for site reviews, collaboration, and on-site support.
Preferred Qualifications
- 4+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

Pay
Base salary ranges for this position:
- USA, GA, Atlanta: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually
- USA, OH, Columbus: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually
- USA, TX, Austin: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually
- USA, VA, Herndon: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually
- USA, WA, Seattle: $116,800 - $160,000 USD annually
Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
