About the role
Electrical Controls Design Engineer needed for a new organization that produces custom, automated machinery for various locations within Bendix. This role involves designing control panels for automation systems from concept to completion, with a focus on electrical 2D design, HMI, and PLC programming.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing automation systems, applying knowledge of electricity and materials.
- Confirm systems and components capabilities.
- Create electrical design drawings by studying project requirements/specifications and manufacturing and assembly methods and materials; collaborate with other essential departments.
- Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling components.
- Assure product quality by designing electrical testing methods; testing finished products and system capabilities.
- Provide engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Maintain product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.
- Create wiring diagrams, wire routing schematics, and harness fabrication statements; assist with documentation of systems.
- Draw and modify schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Create panel designs, select components, generate electrical part lists for ordering, and create purchasing requisitions.
- Develop controls design standards and templates based on company practices.
- Construct manuals and support documentation for customers.
- Assist technicians with questions related to schematics.
- Support hardware debug to verify system operation.
- Work with the engineering team and customers regarding projects.
- Travel to customer facilities prior to system design and assist as needed (50% travel).
- Perform other duties as necessary to ensure organizational success and customer satisfaction.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with Electrical 2D design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical).
- HMI and PLC programming experience (required).
- Pneumatic design experience (required).
- Preferred: 5+ years of engineering experience in designing control panels for automation systems.
- Experience with the following software/programs:
- Electrical Schematic 2D software (AutoCAD Electrical plus).
- PLC and HMI programming languages (required).
- Robot programming (Fanuc, a plus).
- Servo Drives (a plus).
- Sensor Technologies (flow, pressure, level, temperature, analytical, counters, position, motion, vision, etc.).
- Networks and PC tools (CC Link, DeviceNet, Ethernet, EthernetIP, EtherCAT, I/O Link).
- Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of and experience working in a manufacturing environment with technical understanding of operations and manufacturing flow.
- Up-to-date professional and technical knowledge.
- Ability to conceptualize and communicate technical information verbally and in writing.
- Understanding of RIA Robot Safety Standards, OSHA Safety Standards, NFPA 79 standards, and NEC.
Qualifications
- Allen Bradley and Siemens Controls PLC (5 years preferred, 3 years minimum).
- Robotics (5 years preferred, 3 years minimum).
- Electrical controls panel design (3 years required).
- Knowledge of safety control requirements for PLCs and control systems.
