Responsibilities
- Perform commissioning of medium-voltage switchgear, substations, and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Support commissioning of utility interconnections and service entrance systems.
- Commission transformers, protective relays, and grounding systems in accordance with project requirements.
- Oversee commissioning of medium-voltage distribution systems feeding UPS, PDUs, and critical loads.
- Develop, review, and execute commissioning plans, procedures, scripts, and test protocols.
- Cookordinate commissioning activities with owners, engineers, contractors, utilities, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
- Validate system readiness through inspections, functional testing, and integrated systems testing.
- Identify deficiencies, track issues, and verify corrective actions through to closeout.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, applicable codes and standards (NFPA, NEC, IEEE, NETA, OSHA), and client commissioning requirements.
- Provide on-site technical leadership and mentorship to commissioning staff and field teams.
- Support system start-up, energization, and turnover activities while maintaining strict adherence to safety controls.
- Maintain detailed commissioning documentation, reports, and final turnover records.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of medium-voltage electrical systems, including switchgear, substations, and power distribution.
- Familiarity with electrical testing standards and practices (NETA, IEEE, NFPA, NEC).
- Proven ability to develop and execute commissioning plans and procedures.
- Strong understanding of system integration, functional testing, and startup processes.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills within energized or pre-energized environments.
- Effective communication and coordination skills with multidisciplinary project teams and stakeholders.
- Able to lead and mentor field personnel in a fast-paced construction or commissioning environment.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent documentation and reporting capabilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred.
- NETA certification preferred.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
