Electric Transmission - Associate Engineer / Engineer / Senior Engineer

Dominion Energy · Glen Allen, VA · 1 wk ago
Full-time

Help power the future of the grid. Join a team at the forefront of integrating renewable energy and modernizing the electric system through advanced SCADA and data communications. The Generation Interconnection Data Communications Team plays a critical role in keeping the grid reliable while enabling new energy resources such as solar, battery storage, and wind to come online. We help design and maintain the control and monitoring systems that operators depend on every second to safely run the power system—and we’re actively shaping how those systems evolve for the next generation of the grid.

About the role

As a SCADA Engineer, you’ll work on high-impact projects that directly support grid reliability and the integration of renewables. SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems are the tools that give grid operators real-time visibility and control of substations and field equipment—essentially the “eyes and hands” of the power system. You’ll help design, build, and support these systems so operators can monitor conditions, respond to issues, and keep electricity flowing safely and reliably.

This role goes beyond traditional SCADA—you’ll be part of a team that is:

  • Integrating renewable and distributed energy resources
  • Applying modern standards like IEC 61850
  • Exploring Software Defined Networking (SDN) and advanced communication architectures
  • Supporting evolving protection, control, and automation strategies

You’ll play a direct role in grid reliability while helping modernize the system and integrate the next generation of energy resources.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement SCADA systems for substations and new generation interconnections
  • Build intuitive HMI displays that provide real-time insight into grid conditions
  • Support modern data communication architectures across the grid

Requirements

  • Associate Engineer: 0-2+ years of engineering experience
  • Engineer: 2+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Senior Engineer: 5+ years of relevant engineering experience

  • Effective decision-making skills
  • Computer skills and application of software programs
  • Analytical and abstract thinking skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to learn to apply engineering theories and concepts to complex problems
  • Ability to take initiative and use creativity to solve engineering challenges
  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations, and practices
  • Ability to develop project management skills and handle multiple tasks
