Election Specialist I

  • May assist with all aspects of ballot processing programs.
  • May assist with the Heath Care Facilities program.
  • May assist with Voter Service and Polling Centers.
  • Able to acquire and maintain technical working knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, Secretary of State rules, regulations, policies, standards, and/or procedures.
  • Registers eligible voters in Adams County.
  • Processes mail, voter correspondence, notices, and voter registration forms.
  • Provides program support to manager in assigned area.
  • Maintain positive professional relationships with vendors and business partners.
  • Maintains basic level of training, certification, and education relating to election administration.
  • Provides assistance in other areas of the Clerk and Recorder's Office as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Election Specialist II

  • Registers eligible voters in Adams County.
  • Completes monthly list maintenance.
  • Maintain confidentiality of personally identifiable information within protected documents per Colorado statute.
  • Utilizes knowledge of election regulations and procedures or refers to statutes in order to disseminate information.
  • May interpret broad policies to fit specific problems.
  • Provide outstanding customer service in person, over the phone, and online communication.
  • Create, revise, and maintain standard operating procedures.
  • Provides program support to manager in assigned area.
  • Aids in the training of new Election Specialist I and temporary staff.
  • Responsible for processing and maintaining UOCAVA registrations.
  • Assist with Health Care Facility program.
  • Provides assistance in other areas of the Clerk and Recorder's Office as needed.
  • Cross-trains on additional processes and technology to provide redundancy support for additional roles.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications For Success

  • Election Specialist I: General knowledge of election administration processes and procedures, knowledge of data entry and ability to accurately meet data entry standards, basic computer skills, ability to easily adapt to changing work environment, ability to become a Colorado Certified Election Official through the Secretary of State’s office within one (1) year and fulfill continuing education requirements to maintain Colorado Election Official Certification, ability to learn SCORE and understand additional technology that assists in the election process, demonstrates professionalism in handling angry or upset individuals on the telephone, in person, or through digital communication, ability to perform strenuous work such as loading, unloading, and lifting heavy objects, ability to prepare a variety of routine correspondence, forms, and reports, ability to work extended hours, as needed, during election cycles, understands urgency and sets priorities appropriately, ability to meet all statutory and workflow deadlines in order to successfully complete elections, successfully handles multiple demands with short time frames, sets goals and manages time efficiently, ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, establishes, maintains, and fosters positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, ability to exercise attention to detail in performing assigned tasks, ability to exercise tact and discretion in handling confidential information, models Clerk and Recorder Purpose, Norms, and Values.
  • Election Specialist II: Advanced knowledge of data entry and ability to accurately meet data entry standards, knowledge of interpersonal communication skills and ability to establish effective working relationships with County staff, officials, and the general public, knowledge of or ability to learn Federal Election Laws, Colorado Revised Statutes, Secretary of State Rules, best practices and local government laws and other regulations affecting elections, ensures election process security, integrity, and compliance within federal election laws as well as state election laws and rules, fulfills continuing education requirements to maintain Colorado Election Official Certification, understands and models Adams County Norms and Values, general knowledge of local government organization and office locations, ability to operate standard office equipment such as copiers, printers and scanners, telephone systems, and windows based personal computers, works in a deadline driven environment, works with other government offices and entities, political parties, demonstrates professionalism in handling angry or upset individuals on the telephone, in person, or through digital communication with minimal support, works extended hours as needed during the election cycle, including weekends and holidays, communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, establishes, maintains, and fosters positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Special Requirements

  • Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
  • Ability to stoop, stand, sit for extended periods, and reach overhead and push, pull or handle objects weighing 25 pounds or less.
  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Work atmosphere may be noisy and hectic due to contact with general public in person and on the telephone.
