About the role
Gwinnett County Voter Registrations and Elections is responsible for planning and organizing all elections and voter-related activities. The division recruits approximately 500 citizens each election cycle to assist voters at the polls. Poll officials receive training and materials to ensure they are ready to help voters.
Responsibilities
- Arrive at polling place by 5:30 a.m. on Election Day and stay until voting ends, paperwork is completed, and equipment and supplies are packed up.
- Receive a stipend, which varies by position, as noted in the Pay section.
- Not leave the polling location after being sworn in unless an emergency occurs.
- Plan and organize elections and voter-related activities.
- Recruit and train poll officials.
- Ensure all ballots and equipment are accounted for.
- Manage the setup and breakdown of polling locations.
- Handle voter inquiries and issues.
- Assist with voter education and outreach.
- Conduct elections and register voters.
- Provide Spanish language assistance as needed.
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Must be a resident of Gwinnett County or a neighboring county (Barrow, Walton, Dekalb, Fulton, Rockdale, Hall, Forsyth, or Jackson).
- If a resident of a neighboring county, an approved Poll Worker Waiver must be obtained from the applicant’s county’s Voter Registration and Elections Office.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English proficiently.
- Multilingual skills, especially Spanish, are preferred.
- Must have reliable transportation and access to a computer for required online training.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 15 lbs. and a maximum of 50 lbs.
- Must be capable of conducting fair and unbiased elections.
- Must not have been convicted of certain crimes or held public office.
- Must be committed to completing assigned tasks.

Pay
- Poll Officials: Stipend of $350.00 per election, plus additional stipends for picking up and returning supplies.
- Poll Managers: Stipend of $280.00 per election, plus additional stipends for returning supplies.
- Assistant Poll Managers: Stipend of $235.00 per election, plus additional stipends for returning supplies.
- Issuing Clerks: Stipend of $170.00 per election, plus additional stipends for returning supplies.
- Election Day/Night Workers: Stipend of $75.00 - $150.00 per election.
Schedule
- Poll Officials: Arrive by 5:30 a.m. on Election Day and stay until voting ends, usually 9:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
- Poll Managers: Assist with recruiting poll officials, arranging details for polling locations, and handling paperwork and supplies.
- Assistant Poll Managers: Assist Poll Managers with problems or questions during voting, and assist with repacking paperwork and equipment after voting ends.
- Issuing Clerks: Help set up polling locations on Monday before Election Day, assist with repacking paperwork and equipment after voting ends, and may leave the polling location only when dismissed by the Poll Manager.
- Election Day/Night Workers: Work on Election Day, Election Night, and for several days after, with some duties hourly rated based on projects.
