Nature of Work
Election Board Workers are essential for election day success and provide a rewarding service to the community by being an election hero!
Terms of Employment
- Dates of Employment: Varies depending on the job duties but includes training and some pre-election meetings.
- Both long-term and short-term roles are available.
- Wages range depending on position.
Typical Duties
- Counting Board: Runs ballot batches through tabulation machines, balances and accounts for each ballot, separates damaged ballots, seals ballots, and secures containers.
- Duplication Board: Duplicates damaged ballots, transposes votes, logs duplicates, and stores original ballots.
- Short-term Roles (Election Board Workers):
- Inspector: Team leader, ensures privacy, communicates with owners, welcomes observers, and reports issues.
- Ballot and Provisional Judge: Assists with ballots, provisional voting, and other duties as assigned.
- Marshal: Maintains order, assesses wait times, and supports technical issues.
- Clerk: Assists voters and performs Marshal duties.
- Troubleshooter: Supports technical/logistical issues, not assigned to one location.
- Ball-on-Demand Operator: Supports printer deployment.
- Receiving Board: Accepts ballots, verifies chain of custody, accounts for returns, and files paperwork.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be 16 years or older.
- Must be a registered voter in Coconino County.
- Work well in a team environment and serve voters with respect and dignity.
- Uphold the County’s Elections Board Workers code of ethics.
- Some positions may require passing a background check.
Working Conditions
- Extensive work hours may be required.
- All positions will require additional training prior to Election Day.
Essential Functions
- Walking.
- Sitting.
- Lifting and carrying (1-50 lbs).
- Pushing/pulling carts, doors, filing cabinets (1-50 lbs).
- Climbing stairs.
- Working with interruptions.
- Repetitive motion (hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder) for telephone, typing, filing, etc.
- Vision acuity (near and far) for writing, typing, and dealing with staff and the public.
- Hearing and speech for ordinary conversation.
- Finger dexterity for typing, writing, filing, etc.

- I understand that the Inspector, Ballot and Provisional Judge, Marshal, Clerk, Troubleshooter, and Ball-on-Demand Operators requires the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. I am able to meet this minimum requirement.
- Some positions may require the ability to lift 25 lbs and carry it over 100 feet. Do you meet this minimum requirement?
