Elec Op Field Tech I

Key Responsibilities

• Install and maintain Smart Grid communication systems, including fiber optic and cellular technologies.
• Aid in installing and maintaining protective relay components on field devices.
• Perform functional and startup testing for new distribution system additions.
• Maintain and service SCADA-controlled and monitored equipment.
• Aid in troubleshooting Smart Grid equipment and communication systems.
• Support DNP mapping and integration with SCADA, OMS, and DMS platforms.
• Maintain accurate records, reports, and system documentation.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• A degree or technical certification in Electrical/Electronic Technology or a related field and 2 years of specialized experience in protective relay installation, maintenance, repair, or testing.
• A high school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of specialized experience in protective relay installation, maintenance, repair, or testing.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of electrical theory and utility construction and maintenance practices.
• Familiarity with SCADA systems, communication protocols, and networking concepts.
• Experience with calibration, instrumentation, and testing equipment.
• Familiarity with SEL protective relays and communication devices.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively and maintain positive working relationships.

Additional Requirements

• Valid North Carolina Driver's License required.
• Functional Employment Test (FET) required.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
