EKG Technician - Full Time

About the Role

As an EKG Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health, you will perform EKG testing across all hospital areas as ordered by physicians. You will respond to STAT and CODE calls, monitor tracings for irregularities requiring immediate medical attention, and support our mission to transform healthcare through connection and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Obtain accurate and well-defined EKG tracings.
• Maintain cleanliness and restock EEG and EKG machines according to department policy.
• Verify daily functionality of EEG and EKG machines; report malfunctions per policy.
• Respond to CODE BLUE calls and initiate continuous EKG as outlined in department procedures.
• Provide competent assessment, treatment, and care tailored to patients' developmental needs.
• Prepare tracings for physician interpretation with a 24-hour turnaround time.
• Administer accurate EKG tests and prepare tracings for physician review, including typing reports and delivering them to designated areas.
• Transport EKG machines to patient floors and verify physician orders in charts.
• Verify patient identification via wristband and bed nameplate for every patient.
• Explain procedures thoroughly to alleviate patient fears and answer questions per policy.
• Demonstrate competency in assessing and analyzing data for effective decision-making and performance improvement.
• Include all pertinent patient information on tracings (name, date, age, medications, condition, time).
• Review EKGs for artifact or technical issues post-completion.
• Leave a copy of the tracing at the nursing station for physician review.
• Retrieve patient data from Tracemaster, entering name, date, and medical record number.
• Edit and type interpretations of tracings accurately, neatly, and timely.
• Proofread all typed interpretations to ensure accuracy before submission.
• Explain and complete tests per policy to ensure patient comfort and ease.
• Review patient charts for information pertinent to EKG readings.
• Prepare patients for EEG tests by measuring and placing electrodes according to the international 10/20 system.
• Perform tests while observing the patient and tracing, making appropriate notations.
• Ensure all pertinent information is listed on tracings (e.g., name, date, age, floor, condition, medications).
• Maintain a log of completed tracings with name, date, and file number.
• Schedule outpatient appointments for testing.
• Maintain an accurate filing system for tracings, storing on CD and archiving by number and year.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
• Adhere to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Requirements

• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of specialized training in EEG or equivalent experience.
• Minimum six months of experience in EEG/EKG.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Pay

The minimum starting rate for this role is $20.64 per hour. The posted rate is a reasonable good faith estimate and may vary based on factors such as labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, and budget considerations. Full-time and part-time (20+ hours/week) positions are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits. Certain roles may also qualify for shift differentials, performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions.
