EIS Apprentice
Chevron’s Shale & Tight Business is accepting online applications for the position of Electronic Instrumentation Specialist (EIS) Apprentice in multiple locations through August 17th, 2026.
About the role
The EIS Apprenticeship is designed to build technical skills in the electrical and instrumentation discipline and gain experience in field operations. As part of the program, apprentices will work with a range of equipment and systems such as overhead power lines, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), transmitters, and communication systems, providing valuable exposure to real-world applications in the industry.
Through a combination of structured training and immersive on-the-job learning, apprentices are introduced to the complexity and criticality of work management, maintenance execution, and equipment servicing/repair. The position provides direct exposure to the Chevron Way Values and the strong safety culture that defines the Shale & Tight Business.
Apprentices will work closely with a dedicated mentor, complete two assignments across different operational areas to develop a broad understanding of how teams and functions work together to safely deliver production and minimize downtime, and will also participate in computer-based and classroom training. This is a temporary 6-month field-based position.
Responsibilities
- Work with equipment and systems such as overhead power lines, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), transmitters, and communication systems.
- Engage in work management, maintenance execution, and equipment servicing/repair.
- Collaborate with teams to safely deliver production and minimize downtime.
- Participate in computer-based and classroom training.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Ability and willingness to work day and night shift work, weekends, and holidays based on assigned work schedule.
- Live within 50 miles of the work location or willingness to relocate within 50 miles of the work location for the duration of the apprenticeship.
- Demonstrate personal commitment to Incident and Injury Free Operations with a proven record in Safety and Reliability (Safety Sensitive Position).
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include meeting at least one of the following:
- Complete an Applied Associates of Science degree (such as Instrumentation and Control (PLC), Computer Information Systems, Automation, Electrical, Electronics, or related field).
- Equivalent education or military training.
- Finish a certificate program degree (such as Instrumentation and Control (PLC), Computer Information Systems, Automation, Electrical, Electronics, or related field) with previous oil & gas or similar industry experience.
A minimum GPA of 2.5 in core classes is required, and transcripts must be uploaded to the applicant’s online profile.
Skills
- Previous experience with reliability, safety, and/or environmental process-related issues.
- Previous experience with pneumatic/electronic instrumentation.
- Basic knowledge in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and an aptitude for learning new software applications.
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse team of coworkers, contractors, and internal and external customers.
As part of the application process, you will be required to take an assessment that measures aptitude and work styles. The assessment takes approximately 45 minutes to complete in one sitting and must be finished within 72 hours of application submission. Your assessment score will be valid for 180 days.
Candidates will need to successfully complete a post-offer/pre-placement drug and alcohol screening, background check, physical, functional capacity examination, as well as pre-placement verification of the information and qualifications provided during the selection process.
