EHS Specialist - Learning, Development & Training
Job Overview
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist - Learning, Development & Training is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating safety training programs that promote a culture of safety, regulatory compliance, and employee development across the organization.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive EHS learning and development strategies aligned with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct training needs assessments to identify skill gaps and training opportunities.
- Design and maintain EHS training matrices for employees, supervisors, and leadership teams.
- Develop career development pathways and competency-based learning programs for safety-related roles.
- Partner with operational leaders to identify workforce development needs and training priorities.
- Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, observations, performance metrics, and employee feedback.
Training Program Development:
- Create engaging instructor-led, virtual, and computer-based training programs.
- Develop training materials including presentations, facilitator guides, participant manuals, videos, eLearning modules, and job aids.
- Ensure all training content complies with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and company safety requirements.
- Manage and maintain EHS training records and documentation.
- Support onboarding and orientation programs for new employees.
- Develop annual training calendars and schedules.
Training Delivery:
- Facilitate safety training sessions for employees, supervisors, and management.
- Deliver specialized training programs such as: OSHA Compliance Hazard Recognition Incident Investigation Defensive Driving Traffic Control Electrical Safety Lockout/Tagout Excavation & Trenching Safety DOT Compliance Emergency Response Leadership Safety Development.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to supervisors and frontline employees.
Compliance and Safety Support:
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and other applicable regulatory training requirements.
- Maintain training records and documentation required for regulatory audits.
- Participate in incident investigations and identify training-related corrective actions.
- Support company safety initiatives, campaigns, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Monitor regulatory changes and update training programs accordingly.
Learning Management System (LMS) Administration:
- Administer and maintain Learning Management Systems (LMS).
- Track training completion, certifications, and compliance metrics.
- Generate reports and dashboards to communicate training effectiveness and compliance status.
- Support eLearning implementation and digital training initiatives.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Education, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Industrial Technology, Education or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience: Minimum 3 years of EHS experience in construction, utility, industrial, manufacturing, transportation, or related industries. Minimum 5 years of experience designing, developing, and delivering safety training programs. Experience conducting classroom, virtual, and field-based training. Experience managing training records, compliance documentation, and LMS platforms. Demonstrated experience applying adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Strong knowledge of: OSHA regulations and compliance requirements Adult learning theory and training methodologies Instructional design principles Learning Management Systems (LMS) Competency-based training programs Training evaluation and effectiveness measurement Exceptional presentation and facilitation skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to engage diverse audiences, including field personnel and leadership teams. Excellent organizational and project management abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with eLearning development tools preferred. Associate Safety Professional (ASP) Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT) Certified Professional in Training Management (CPTM) OSHA 500/510 Trainer Certification Adult Learning or Instructional Design Certification ATSSA training experience Experience with Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, or similar eLearning development software. Experience supporting utility, infrastructure, construction, transportation, or field service organizations. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
