About the role
The EHS Specialist role is located in an in-field / field-office setting. This position does not have direct reports.
Responsibilities
- OSHA standards
- Maintains company's safety standards in accordance with OSHA and state regulations
- Develops thorough knowledge of all related OSHA regulations and compliance requirements
- Monitors changes in OSHA regulations and prepares programs as required
- Training and New Hire Orientation
- Conducts formal safety training
- Provides onsite training for field personnel
- Conducts Union and Nonunion safety orientation
- Safety Works to align company safety philosophy with actual work practices
- Develops programs to encourage employee engagement in safety, improve hazard recognition and control, and foster a continuous learning environment
- Proactively suggests safety improvements, provides consulting, and tracks follow-up recommendations to completion
- Hazard Assessment
- Performs hazard assessments to reduce risk in all facets of work
- Conducts safety assessments/audits/observations and provides positive and constructive coaching for co-workers at all levels
- Assists in the implementation and administration of safety management system software and continuously seeks ways to leverage technology
- Assists in the administration and reporting for 3rd party safety monitoring services
- Client Safety Meetings
- Participates in client safety meetings or conference calls to convey information from clients about their safety requirements on specific job sites or within their facilities
- Incident Investigation
- Completes incident reports, OSHA-required documentation, and other client reports
- Critically assesses and evaluates hazards as well as taking corrective actions in the moment
- Documents findings, including "Root Cause Analysis"
- Communicate investigation findings and recommend how to prevent reoccurrences
- Verify corrective measures have been implemented and enforced
- Other Duties
- Supports mission, vision, and culture to foster a culture of respect, integrity, and kindness
- Perform other duties as assigned or prudent
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree preferably in Safety, Engineering or Construction related field or in lieu of degree, seven years of experience in industrial/construction/utility safety is required
- Three years or more Safety-related experience required
- Construction or utility industry experience preferred
- Trenching & excavation experience preferred
- Solar installation experience preferred
- Strong skills in organization, communication, and attention to detail
- Experience giving presentations and formal training
- Computer and technology proficiency is essential (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and mobile applications)
- OSHA certifications beneficial (OSHA 500, OSHA 510, OSHA 30)
- Certifications in safety preferred (CSP, CIH, CHST, CUSP, etc.)
- Ability to prioritize and self-direct work with little direct supervision is required
- Valid driver's license is required
Physical Requirements
- Stand and drive for prolonged periods
- Stooping, climbing, squatting, and walking
- Wear a respirator and personal protective equipment appropriate to the assigned work
- Work outdoors with exposure to extreme weather (hot and cold)
Travel Requirements
This is a field position encompassing worksites throughout the assigned area and will require travel with up to 60% overnight stays.
