About the role

The EHS Specialist will assist the EHS Manager in overseeing all facets of health and safety for facility personnel by administering established health and safety initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a safe work environment and lead by example, adhering to and enforcing all safety and regulatory procedures.
  • Promptly act on unsafe situations.
  • Immediately report potential food safety or product quality issues to the management staff or shift supervisor.
  • Manage employee's safety concerns.
  • Conduct workplace inspections.
  • Conduct risk assessments – new and updating.
  • Lead safety walks with different teams and Plant Leadership.
  • Inspect contractors.
  • Conduct programmed safety focused audits.
  • Manage changes (machines, work areas, etc.).
  • Update safety communications and contractor safety boards.
  • Perform weekly inspections of Hazardous Waste Storage Areas.
  • Perform stormwater inspections.
  • Sign waste manifests.
  • Prepare and submit required reports monthly/quarterly/semiannual/annually.
  • Review chemical approvals for safety and environmental impacts.
  • Gather/record environmental data (monthly air emissions, oxidizer readings, etc.).
  • Periodically review government websites for regulation changes.
  • Lead Safety Team.
  • Ensure compliance with local authorities, regulations, rules, and codes, programs, and policies related to safety.
  • Interface with authorities when required and ensure accurate record keeping and reporting.
  • Participate in corporate safety audits and follow up.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to ensure that all required safety training is developed, scheduled, conducted, and managed according to an established timeline.
  • Support development of plant and individual safety goals and gather safety metric data.

Requirements

  • At least 70% of time is spent in the production environment supporting a variety of EHS activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety or Environmental or other related field preferred.
  • 1-2 years of related experience is preferred.

Skills

  • Strong safety and regulatory knowledge.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
