EHS Specialist I
Key Responsibilities
- Embrace and model Forgen’s Core Values and contribute to an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture.
- Support the implementation of Forgen’s EHS Program on assigned projects.
- Conduct regular site safety inspections, audits, and basic exposure monitoring.
- Affiliate in developing, reviewing, and implementing project HASPs and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).
- Support new hire orientations, project-specific safety training, and toolbox talks.
- Promote safety awareness daily through field presence, coaching, and positive engagement with crews.
- Affiliate in incident and near-miss investigations, including documentation and corrective action follow-up.
- Ensure safety observations, inspections, training records, and incident data are accurately entered into EHS Insights.
- Participate in compliance audits, client visits, and project coordination meetings.
- Perform inspections of fire extinguishers, ladders, harnesses, and other safety-related equipment.
- Conduct weekly walkthroughs and communicate safety concerns to project leadership.
- Track expirations for certifications, medical screenings, and training, and coordinate renewals.
- Affiliate with identification, ordering, and distribution of PPE and maintain adequate stock.
- Affiliate with air sampling, equipment calibration, basic industrial hygiene tasks, and permit reviews.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Construction, or related field.
- 3+ years of relevant safety experience in civil, environmental, industrial, or heavy construction environments.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- 30-Hour OSHA Construction
- First Aid/CPR
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER (or ability to obtain)
- Competent Person trainings
- EM385-1-1 familiarity
- BCSP progress (e.g., STS, CHST, or equivalent)
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- This role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, extended standing or walking on project sites, climbing in and out of equipment, and working in confined spaces or at heights.
- Work conditions and demands may vary, with possible exposure to heavy machinery, chemicals, dust, fumes, noise, and extreme weather.
- Proper PPE, including protective eyewear, gloves, a hard hat, and steel-toed boots, is required.
- Effective communication, tool use, and adherence to safety protocols are essential.
