EHS Specialist
About the role
Mueller Water Products, Inc. is seeking an EHS Specialist to join our newest Kimball, TN facility. This role supports the development and implementation of the EHS Management System (EHSMS) for our facilities.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve all environmental and sustainability elements within the EHSMS.
- Develop, update, administer and monitor all EHS programs, procedures, policies, and standards in a manner that ensures compliance to Federal, State, and Local regulations and align with Corporate EHS requirements.
- Avoid inaccuracies and ensure timely submission of all environmental reports.
- Create and implement site-specific Level III procedures.
- Conduct daily monitoring and inspections as required.
- Act as a first point of contact for employees regarding emergent issues, hazards, and questions.
- Lead safety meetings and Emergency Response Team (ERT) initiatives.
- Organize and maintain all hard copy and electronic records, permits, audits, and written programs necessary for compliance with regulations and the EHSMS.
- Develop and coordinate education/training for compliance with the EPA and EHSMS expectations.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance and emergency repairs of all pollution control devices and their related systems.
- Serve as a liaison with local, state and federal compliance regulatory personnel.
- Make periodic comprehensive environmental and safety inspections.
- Maintain certifications necessary for job responsibilities and stay apprised of latest regulations and technologies.
- Assist in answering any notices of violations (NOVs) and initiate actions for any necessary abatement.
- Assist in the collection, input and distribution of various data and reports for environmental and sustainability initiatives.
- Monitor collection and storage of production waste materials and ensure proper storage and disposal processes are followed.
- Support Health and Safety functions, as necessary, with risk assessments, incident analysis, START observations, Level III development and implementation, education, and training.
- Maintain approachability among all employees regularly entering production areas and visiting employees.
- Train new and current employees in varying topics relating to safety and environmental topics.
- Perform other duties and project work as assigned.
Requirements
- Strong personal commitment to safety standards in industrial and/or manufacturing environments.
- Proven ability in the development of processes from conception through integration into an EHS Management System.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and determine priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully obtain buy-in and achieve goals through influence.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Able to communicate at various levels within the organization.
- Able to effectively work in a team.
- Knowing role on team, based on project/task with a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
- Able to maintain confidentiality in varying situations.
Preferred
- Five (5) years of experience working with operating air permits, hazardous waste management, NPDES permits, SPCC plans, State and Federal agencies.
- Current certification in Hazardous Waste Management and Response that fulfills the requirements of 29 CFR1910.120q(6)(iii).
- Experience in emergency response procedures.
- ISO 14001 experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety glasses, steel-toed or metatarsal-guarded shoes, and/or ear plugs, while working in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, and reach within hands and/or arm’s length.
- Ability to frequently stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Ability to occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder level.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects between 25 and 50 pounds in weight in all directions.
- Ability to remain in stationary or standing position for prolonged periods and to alternate between positions as necessary.
- Ability to repeat gross or fine manipulation that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Ability to perform close visual inspections of products, which may include specific vision requirements.
- Ability to clearly see pedestrians and objects, which may include specific vision requirements.
- Ability to work in an open warehouse environment, subject to seasonal weather (hot/cold).
- Ability to climb and operate on catwalks, ladders, equipment, etc., to adequately troubleshoot maintenance problems.
- Ability to work at heights over 20 feet and in equipment pits accessible only by ladder.
- Ability to safely operate standing and sit-down power industrial trucks (PIT), and other similar and advanced industrial equipment.
- Operation may include operating equipment at heights.
