About the role

OFS, a leading manufacturer of optical fiber, cable, and apparatus, has an EHS Specialist position available at our fiber manufacturing facility in Norcross, Georgia. This role supports a dynamic, high-tech, and high-volume 24/7 process.

Responsibilities

• Interact with regulatory agencies regarding citations, notices of violation, informal conferences, appeals, submittals, permit renewals, inspections, and corrective actions.
• Assist with the strategic development of trend analyses and metrics reports to decrease injury rates and improve compliance.
• Analyze, develop, and implement processes to improve the effectiveness of EHS programs.
• Provide EHS-related training to location managers and associates as needed.
• Conduct root cause investigations of all OSHA recordable injuries and near misses.
• Perform daily safety inspections of all buildings, documenting findings and reporting significant issues to the EH&S Manager.
• Maintain and post proper safety signage throughout the facility.
• Meet with the management team to define EHS goals and objectives.
• Coordinate and document training for all plant employees in safety and regulatory programs, tracking compliance.
• Conduct inspections, identify hazardous conditions and EHS violations, and provide solutions for industrial hygiene, health, and safety hazards.
• Develop, implement, and manage EHS programs, ensuring compliance with governing regulations.
• Conduct health and safety audits and inspections.
• Lead accident investigation teams using Root Cause Analysis (5 Whys) to identify causes and corrective actions.
• Establish and direct plant safety shift committees and their activities.
• Monitor and evaluate operational processes and employee engagement.
• Update and develop written safety programs, conduct monthly Safety Committee Meetings, and investigate and resolve employee health and safety concerns.
• Perform safety orientations for new hires.
• Coordinate safety training for applicable employees, including Hot Work, Lockout/Tagout, Bloodborne Pathogens, First Responder Training, Hearing Conservation, Hazardous Material Training, Fire Extinguisher Training, emergency evacuation, medical emergency, and severe weather drills.

Requirements

• Generally, 2–5 years of experience in a related field OR an MS/MA with 2–4 years of experience.
• Certification required in some areas (e.g., EHS or related field).
• Preferred: 2–5 years’ experience in EHS or a related field.
• Employees are expected to serve as role models for safe work practices, including following health and safety policies, maintaining a clean work area, wearing and storing PPE properly, and prioritizing personal safety and wellness.
