About the role
We are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to lead and support site-wide EHS initiatives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment in Shelbyville, Kentucky.
Responsibilities
- Manage and administer all Environmental, Health & Safety programs for the Shelbyville plant.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local EHS regulations.
- Conduct workplace inspections, safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Deliver EHS training, new hire onboarding, toolbox talks, and refresher training programs.
- Maintain EHS records, training documentation, SDS management, and audit readiness.
- Cook emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness activities.
- Lead Workers’ Compensation administration and support return-to-work processes.
- Facilitate Safety Committee meetings and promote employee engagement in safety initiatives.
- Monitor EHS KPIs, prepare reports and presentations, and communicate performance updates to leadership.
- Partner with plant leadership, supervisors, employees, vendors, and the global EHS community to advance safety and environmental goals.
- Manage EHS-related supplies, PPE purchasing, and departmental budget responsibilities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance workplace safety and operational excellence.
Requirements
- 5+ years of EHS leadership experience in a manufacturing environment; plastics industry experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proven experience conducting audits, investigations, risk assessments, and safety training.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently while maintaining attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS management systems.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, or a related field preferred.
- Professional EHS certifications (e.g., CSP, CHMM, OH&S-related credentials) are an asset.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
