Position Summary
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for actively supporting EHS Cultural Excellence through collaboration and personal responsibility for safety, health, and environment, promoting a culture to address incidents, near-misses and potential hazards.
Responsibilities
- Supports EHS Cultural Excellence through collaboration and personal responsibility for safety, health, and environment.
- Drives EHS risk reduction efforts and compliance activities using scientific, engineering principles and behavioral based systems.
- Coaches and/or leads investigations of workplace incidents and completes root cause analyses to determine appropriate corrective actions and conducts assessments of processes to reduce risk.
- Affirmatively participates in the completion of internal and external EHS compliance reports and analyzes EHS data and reports trends.
- Recommends plans for correction of gaps and provides EHS input to address changes (e.g., site Management of Change process).
- Assists in ongoing industrial hygiene chemical and noise assessments and monitoring plans; implements ergonomic programs to reduce risk of cumulative trauma and other ergonomic injuries at the site.
- Participates and/or leads portions of EHS self-assessments and/or audits. Acts as a facility representative during agency inspections, including but not limited to EPA, OSHA, fire department, and county.
- Provides EHS knowledge and services on existing and new programs; communicates project or program status and results to management.
- Conveys the meaning and importance of EHS topics to non-EHS personnel and influences others to take appropriate action based on such information.
- Actively seeks to continually improve communication and presentation skills.
- Led or assisted in safety committee teams and meetings, including EHS regulatory interpretations.
- Supports the design and installation of new or modified equipment, industrial automation, and assists with implementing management of change processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Two (2) years' experience with EHS programs and procedures
- Ability to work onsite in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms
- Ability to present well one on one, in small groups, and to larger audiences
- Self-directed, detail oriented, good interpersonal, communication, prioritization, and organizational skills
- Analytical, leadership, project planning, program development and deployment skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely with all employees within the site
- Four (4) or more years of experience working in an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) role in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in implementation of comprehensive EHS management systems
- Experience with hazard and risk assessments and experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with ergonomics assessments of physical capabilities, needs, and limitations in a manufacturing setting
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations including (e.g., OSHA, EPA, etc.)
- Master's degree or higher in a science, engineering, or environmental health and safety (EHS) discipline from an accredited institution
Preferred Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Master's degree or higher in a science, engineering, or environmental health and safety (EHS) discipline from an accredited institution
- Experience in implementation of comprehensive EHS management systems
- Experience with hazard and risk assessments and experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with ergonomics assessments of physical capabilities, needs, and limitations in a manufacturing setting
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations including (e.g., OSHA, EPA, etc.)
- Self-directed, detail oriented, good interpersonal, communication, prioritization, and organizational skills
- Analytical, leadership, project planning, program development and deployment skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely with all employees within the site
- Four (4) or more years of experience working in an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) role in a manufacturing environment
- Experience working on a cross-functional team
- QEP, CSP, or CIH certification(s)
