EHS Safety Technician - VA

Responsibilities

• Performs various physical duties as assigned
• Use proper PPE
• Ship inspections
• Correcting discrepancies
• Training
• Coordination of hazardous waste removal, shipyard hazardous material compliance
• Recordkeeping
• Sample collection
• Industrial hygiene surveys
• Accident investigations
• Provide safety data sheets
• Perform some specialized tasks which may require on-the-job training
• Implement and follow the company's safety, quality, and environmental policies

Qualifications

• Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines
• Time management skills, minimal supervision, can manage time effectively
• Attentive to detail and alert always to ensure safety
• Able to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workers
• Two years of previous experience in EH&S
• Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
• Must be knowledgeable in OSHA Maritime Standards
• Good written and verbal communication skills

Education Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Technical/Vocational trade school
• Apprenticeship
• Must be certified HAZWOPER and 10-hour OSHA Maritime Safety

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

• Work is conducted indoors and outdoors frequently exposed to prevailing weather conditions
• Work indoor or aboard vessel which may have fumes, chemicals, and heat as well as noise and dust present depending upon the location of work
• Safety equipment required
• The individual must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways and vertical
• Work aboard the vessels can be strenuous and sometimes hazardous
• Dynamic, fast-paced outdoor setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard
• Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time
• Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed

Other requirements

• All positions require a pre-employment medical test
• This employer participates in E-Verify
• Must be able to qualify for DBIDS security clearance
• Able to read technical English is a must
• U.S. Citizenship is preferred (for some work locations it is required)
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
