About the role
The EHS Manager will manage, create, implement, and continuously improve organizational programs to ensure the health and safety of the facility and its employees and compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, TCEQ). The EHS Manager will implement environmental, safety systems and programs for a startup operation and collaborate closely with Plant Managers, Human Resource Managers, and other stakeholders across the company to create organizational positive change.
Responsibilities
- Manage the company's environment to include waste management, health and safety, and fire protection.
- Develop and maintain EHS policies, systems, procedures, and programs for environmental and safety of the facility as this is a new operation.
- Manage a team of engineers and technicians.
- Monitor and keep up-to-date with occupational health and safety regulations and related documents.
- Ensure extensive knowledge of OSHA and environmental standards.
- Monitor and ensure facility compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, EPA, TCEQ).
- Ensure knowledge and compliance with relevant legislation and other requirements; prepare conditions necessary for compliance in case of changes.
- Ensure operation according to ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 systems; active participation in the successful conduct of audits.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate physical, chemical, and operational hazards.
- Supervise and coordinate official license procedures.
- Prepare annual reports.
- Coordinate periodic fire safety inspections and lifting-equipment inspections.
- Investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective measures.
- Prepare and implement annual accident prevention, fire prevention, health protection, and environmental protection plans.
- Check occupational safety compliance and use of work tools, machines, and equipment; conduct commissioning procedures.
- Cooperate effectively with other departments.
- Prepare annual reports and statements.
- Process OSHA Form 300A (Annual Summary).
Requirements
- Advanced degree in safety, fire safety, and/or environment.
- 10+ years of experience in EHS.
- 5 years' experience in manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge working with federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, EPA, TCEQ).
- Strong knowledge and experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Experience with waste management and disposal.
- Experience in risk management.
- Experience managing people.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Auditor certification (ISO 14001:2015 / ISO 45001:2018).
- Experience dealing with government agencies.
- Project startup experience.
This is a manufacturing environment that operates 24/7. Your presence on the floor will be consistently required. This is not a desk position.
