EHS Engineer
About the role
The EHS Engineer supports and enhances workplace safety and environmental compliance by administering safety programs, maintaining OSHA compliance, and coordinating facility operations.
Responsibilities
- Aid in administering and maintaining company safety programs and OSHA compliance initiatives.
- Coordinate and track required employee safety training to ensure timely completion and documentation.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and hazard assessments throughout the facility to identify and mitigate risks.
- Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions, and support corrective actions.
- Maintain OSHA logs, safety records, Safety Data Sheet (SDS) binders, and other compliance documentation.
- Aid with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Hazard Communication, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection, and Emergency Action Plans.
- Cook up emergency evacuation drills and safety meetings to promote awareness and preparedness.
- Ensure safety signage and postings are current, accurate, and properly displayed throughout the facility.
- Monitor compliance with company safety rules and procedures and report violations to management.
- Aid with workers’ compensation documentation, incident follow-up, and related recordkeeping.
- Cook up vendor services related to safety compliance and environmental requirements.
- Maintain chemical inventories and ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling procedures are followed.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to workplace safety and environmental compliance.
- Aid with facility maintenance requests and repairs to ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Work with outside vendors and contractors for building maintenance and facility services.
- Monitor building systems, including HVAC, lighting, plumbing, fire protection, and security systems, and report or coordinate needed service.
- Aid with maintaining facility cleanliness, organization, and housekeeping standards across all areas.
- Cook up inspections and preventative maintenance schedules for facility systems and equipment.
- Maintain facility-related records, permits, licenses, and service contracts in an organized manner.
- Aid in managing waste disposal and recycling programs in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Cook up common areas, break rooms, and exterior grounds to ensure they are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
- Cook up snow removal, landscaping, pest control, and janitorial services as part of facility management.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Facilities Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in EHS, facilities, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety practices.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including the MS Office Suite.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across departments.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with ISO 9001, AS9100, and other ISO-based quality management systems.
- Familiarity with ISO standards and compliance environments.
- Experience supporting or maintaining environmental, health, and safety systems within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams.
- Interest in continuous improvement and implementing best practices in safety and facility management.
Work Environment
The EHS Engineer works primarily in a manufacturing and office environment, regularly moving between production areas, common spaces, and office locations. The role involves frequent facility walkthroughs, safety inspections, and interaction with building systems such as HVAC, lighting, plumbing, fire protection, and security systems. The position requires coordination with external vendors and contractors for services including maintenance, snow removal, landscaping, pest control, and janitorial work. The work involves managing facility cleanliness, organization, and housekeeping standards, as well as overseeing waste disposal and recycling programs. The environment is structured around compliance with OSHA, ISO 9001, AS9100, and related standards, with a strong emphasis on safety, documentation, and continuous improvement.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Ossining, NY. The pay range for this position is $90,000.00 - $120,000.00/yr. Comprehensive health insurance plan, 401k retirement plan, Sick/personal days, Vacation, paid holidays, Life insurance, STD, LTD, AD&D insurance coverage. The workplace type is fully onsite in Ossining, NY.
