About the role
The EHS Engineer supports the EHS Leads and project team in the safe construction of a project. This position assists the project team in planning, monitoring work activities, and achieving correction of unsafe acts or conditions while working at the project site.
Responsibilities
- Assists the project team in planning, monitoring work activities, and achieving correction of unsafe acts or conditions while working at the project site.
- Ensures a safe work environment for team members, subcontractors, and visitors.
- Develops positive professional relationships while working closely with field personnel, all levels of management, and outside agencies during all phases of construction.
- Develops and executes site-specific EHS program and activities.
- Documents, tracks, and corrects or reinforces EHS violations/initiatives, unsafe/safe conditions, unsafe/safe behaviors, etc.
- Conducts work area EHS audits.
- Conducts project’s leading and trailing indicator data/document collection.
- Conducts or assists with major incident investigation, documentation, and analysis.
- Covers OSHA reporting and posting requirements.
- Reviews Safety Submittals and attends preconstruction and preparatory meetings with subcontractors.
- Maintains the project site Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and assists the Project Manager with the management of the EHS budget allocated for the project.
- Assists with onsite injury management and case management.
- Develops and monitors Return to Work and Modified duty assignments and paperwork.
- Assists with the organization and implementation of project EHS recognition/reward programs.
- Participates in and contributes to project planning and hazard analysis.
- Assists in other duties as assigned, relevant to the achievement of the position’s and team’s objectives.
Requirements
- 1-4 years of EHS experience within the construction industry.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, 29 CFR 1926.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Action-oriented.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Proficient with MS Office software.
Qualifications
- Must possess a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with Fortis policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- EHS or related technical undergraduate degree preferred.
