Brief Description

The EHS Director is responsible for leading the Company’s safety program, fostering a safe operations mindset among team members and business partners, and ensuring every employee and trade partner returns home safely.

Safety Leadership & Strategy

  • Develops and articulates R&H’s safety vision, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Builds relationships with key stakeholders to establish trust and open lines of communication.
  • Promotes continuous improvement through data analysis and employee engagement.
  • Manages personnel administration, performance reviews, and professional development.
  • Serves as the company’s subject matter expert on construction safety and risk management.
  • Participates in the senior leadership team to provide strategic guidance on safety and operational risk.
  • Maintains the Safety Committee and ensures its members are engaged in R&H’s Safety Program.

Field Operations Support

  • Conducts regular project site audits and inspections.
  • Provides coaching and support to Project Managers, Superintendents, and field personnel.
  • Aids project teams with preconstruction safety planning and site logistics.
  • Reviews and supports subcontractor safety prequalification processes.
  • Monitors subcontractor compliance throughout project execution.

Subcontractor Safety Management

  • Manages subcontractor safety prequalification processes, including reviewing safety programs, EMRs, OSHA records, insurance, and compliance documentation.
  • Maintains subcontractor compliance throughout project execution.

Risk Management

  • Collaborates with insurance carriers and brokers on loss prevention initiatives.
  • Supports workers' compensation case management and return-to-work programs.
  • Participates in insurance audits and claims reviews.
  • Identifies emerging risks and recommends mitigation strategies.

Incident Management

  • Leads investigations for incidents, injuries, property damage, and near misses.
  • Identifies root causes and implements corrective and preventive actions.
  • Tracks safety trends and recommends improvements.
  • Prepares executive reports and communicates findings to leadership.

Training and Development

  • Develops and delivers safety orientation and ongoing technical safety trainings.
  • Ensures employees receive required certifications and regulatory training.
  • Mentors project leadership on effective safety management.
  • Promotes leadership engagement through toolbox talks, safety meetings, and field coaching.

Program Administration

  • Creates and manages the safety department’s budget.
  • Drives continuous improvement of R&H’s safety technology platforms and reporting systems.
  • Maintains safety records and analytics dashboards.
  • Provides corporate safety presentations and/or documentation.
  • Oversees safety equipment procurement and program administration.
  • Ensures access to relevant Codes and Standards and provides interpretation assistance.

Requirements

  • Maintains current knowledge and understanding of Federal / State OSHA standards.
  • Exhibits excellent supervisory skills, including planning and assigning work, evaluating subordinates, and motivating them.
  • Displays strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates mental ability to conduct on-going interpersonal interactions, analyze and solve problems.
  • Shows strong technical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Safety management software, Data reporting, and dashboard development.
  • Can participate in a team.
  • Ability to speak Spanish preferred.
  • Driver’s license and clean driving record required.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety & Health, Construction Engineering Management, or similar discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of progressive construction safety experience.
  • 5+ years leading safety programs.
  • Experience supporting multiple concurrent projects.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations.
  • Professional certification (CSP, CHST, or CIH) preferred.
  • OSHA 500 Trainer preferred.
  • Supervisory responsibility for managing Safety Department staff and consultants.
