Responsibilities
- Develop relationships with client labs and act as a trusted advisor.
- Speak with clients and generate ideas for how Related Beal can improve efficiency and productivity in their laboratory operations.
- Partner with the corporate team to identify and present industry advances in an educational format to our clients at your site.
- Mentor and guide team members as they grow and develop professionally.
- Manage all general laboratory operations necessary to keep labs at your site running safely and efficiently, including waste consolidation and removal, gas tank exchanges, tissue culture room maintenance, and hazardous waste disposal.
- Oversee lab equipment purchases, including price negotiation and installation.
- Coordinate and ensure proper maintenance, repair, calibration, and certification of lab equipment; schedule all preventative maintenance and respond quickly when equipment breaks.
- Train all clients on existing and new technologies when they join the community and as needed.
- Manage company permitting (EPA, Medical Waste, Hazardous Materials, and Waste) and ensure full compliance with Environmental Health and Safety programs and county regulations.
- Manage biohazardous Waste Management — including vendor management, waste removal, and reviewing and signing waste manifests.
- Stock PPE closets and oversee lab procurement and inventory management.
- Receive and move dewars and dry ice containers as needed.
- Respond to resident and client tickets and inquiries promptly.
- Perform dishwashing and autoclaving per lab needs and client requests.
- Facilitate lab layout design with client input for safe and efficient workflow.
- Ensure all equipment databases and documentation (including inventory and Safety Data Sheets for hazardous, corrosive, or flammable chemicals) are current.
- Participate in investigating incidents, near misses, and property damage; ensure follow-up is completed and records are properly maintained.
- Aid in facilities and community tasks and serve as a back-up resource as needed.
Qualifications
- A history of successfully building and maintaining effective and safe lab environments in a growing company, with a strong understanding of the processes, equipment, and requirements needed in a research organization for molecular biology and chemistry labs.
- Experience implementing site health and safety programs and taking necessary steps to ensure a safe work environment for all employees.
- Lifetime Bachelor's degree in Biology or Chemistry preferred.
- 4 to 6 years of laboratory and EHS management experience.
- Knowledge of hazardous waste disposal practices.
- Willingness to participate in DOT, RCRA certification.
- Knowledge of OSHA, DEP, EPA, RCRA, DOT, DPH, MWRA, NIH, or NFPA, and other laboratory regulations/guidelines.
- Intermediate level Microsoft Office skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively at all levels and cross-functionally.
- Ability to learn new tools and applications when and where needed.
