About the role
The EH&S Manager at West Fraser develops strategies and programs to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and achieve World Class safety within their division. They will communicate and coach team members to influence a positive safety culture with zero TRIR.
Responsibilities
- Hold team members accountable to the division wide safety plan and communicate goals, improvements, and successes.
- Identify and assess all certification and training requirements.
- Facilitate the development, implementation, and maintenance of division safety training programs.
- Measure and manage required KPIs for Environmental, Health, and Safety, report to the leadership team and corporation as required.
- Ensure compliance with air and water permitting regulations from local, state, and federal agencies.
- Develop strategy to ensure safety and environmental stewardship is included in operating rhythms.
- Provide coaching and development for all team members to improve safety behavior and performance.
- Develop opportunities and facilitate tracking of employee engagement in EH&S/EH&S improvement initiatives.
- Oversee contractor safety and training, hold contractors accountable to West Fraser standards.
- Avoid and report contractor safety performance.
- Maintain Occupational Health programs in conformance with regulatory and West Fraser expectations.
- Oversee division nurse responsibilities, trainings, and certifications.
- Ensure integrity of improvement opportunities, routine risk identification, and control programs (e.g., pre-task risk assessment, development of safe work procedures, etc.).
- Monitor quality and consistency of incident investigation and reporting process, ensuring proper identification and implementation of corrective actions.
- Manage and monitor workers compensation injuries and litigation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a safety or environmental sciences discipline with 3-5 years manufacturing experience OR 10 years of manufacturing management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Managerial/Supervisory experience (Preferably in Safety or Environmental management).
- Able to mentor, coach, and support members to positively impact divisional safety culture.
- Demonstrate creativity and alternative thinking to develop new ideas and answers to work-related problems.
- Promote a proven ability to build and maintain strong teams.
- Knowledge of best practices, principles, and methods to achieve a sustained, safe manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of local, state, federal, and other regulatory requirements for environmental and health standards.
- Ability to facilitate a successful safety program.
- Able to lead by example, practice what you preach.
- Develop and maintain constructive working relationships.
