Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all environmental, health, and safety initiatives across the facility to ensure safe and compliant operations.
- Develop and execute site-wide EHS strategies focused on regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and performance improvement.
- Establish team goals, key performance indicators, and metrics aligned with business objectives and monitor progress against them.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and professional development for EHS team members to build a high-performing function.
- Partner with cross-functional leadership to advise on safety, compliance, and operational risks and to integrate EHS into decision-making.
- Promote a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement in safety and environmental performance.
- Ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations, permits, and reporting requirements at the local, state, and federal levels.
- Oversee environmental programs related to air quality, water management, hazardous waste, and chemical reporting.
- Manage the preparation, review, and submission of regulatory documents, permits, and compliance reports.
- Maintain and improve safety management systems and regulatory compliance programs across the site.
- Oversee core safety programs, including energy control procedures (lockout/tagout), confined space entry, fall protection, machine safeguarding, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Review incident investigations to ensure thorough root cause analysis and effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Track, analyze, and report safety performance metrics to identify trends and prioritize improvement opportunities.
- Ensure timely resolution of identified hazards, audit findings, and compliance gaps.
- Oversee emergency response planning, crisis management, and business continuity programs for the facility.
- Coordinate with external emergency services and relevant agencies as needed to support emergency preparedness and response.
- Act as the primary contact for regulatory inspections and audits related to environmental and safety matters.
- Manage communication and relationships with environmental and safety agencies and regulatory bodies.
- Lead responses to compliance issues, findings, and enforcement actions, including development and implementation of corrective actions.
- Conduct internal audits and system reviews to verify compliance and drive continuous improvement.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, forecasts, and capital plans related to EHS programs.
- Oversee spending for compliance programs, safety initiatives, and environmental services, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
- Manage third-party vendors, consultants, and service providers supporting EHS activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency while maintaining high standards of compliance and safety.
- Ensure employees receive required training related to safety, environmental programs, and emergency response.
- Encourage employee involvement in safety programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and deliver communication programs that reinforce EHS expectations, policies, and best practices.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in environmental, health, and safety management within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in EHS roles supporting industrial or manufacturing operations.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards, including OSHA requirements and related safety management practices.
- Proven experience managing regulatory compliance programs and environmental compliance, including permits and reporting.
- Hands-on experience with safety management systems, site safety programs, and safety training.
- Solid understanding of environmental health, industrial hygiene, and environmental safety principles.
- Ability to lead teams, provide coaching, and influence cross-functional stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience conducting audits, incident investigations, and root cause analyses with effective follow-up actions.
- Skill in developing and monitoring EHS performance metrics and key performance indicators.
- Strong communication skills to effectively convey safety expectations, procedures, and training content.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field.
- Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential or progress toward certification.
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification.
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification.
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification.
- Other relevant professional certifications in environmental, health, or safety disciplines.
- Experience with environmental compliance programs covering air quality, water management, hazardous waste, and chemical reporting.
- Industrial hygiene and site safety assessments.
- Experience designing and delivering safety training programs for diverse workgroups.
- Experience managing departmental budgets, forecasts, and capital plans.
- Experience managing third-party vendors, consultants, and service providers in support of EHS programs.
- Demonstrated ability to drive waste reduction, resource conservation, and sustainability initiatives.
