Responsibilities

  • Launch Safety & Design Phase Risk: Lead SFMEA, ergonomic assessments, and risk-matrix reviews; embed EH&S specifications, guarding requirements, and regulatory standards into equipment designs and line layouts before equipment is ordered
  • Represent EH&S in EEM reviews: Build EH&S actions into milestone gate checklists and verify closure prior to SOP
  • Develop and maintain equipment design safety standards: Include interlocks on gates and fences (e.g., tamperproof fasteners, access control), and manage communication of standards updates to launch and engineering teams
  • Career Coordination: Coordinate safety training requirements for launch personnel; align general plant policies with plant-specific training coordination and ensure pre-SOP readiness across all sites
  • Manage contractor coordination: Coordinate safety training requirements for launch personnel; align general plant policies with plant-specific training coordination and ensure pre-SOP readiness across all sites
  • Serve as EH&S and ergonomics milestone owner: Track and report status at each program gate (Intention, Pre-Contract, Contract Commitment, Style Freeze, Detailed Design, SHRM, MPRM, LRM, SODM)
  • Set EH&S acceptance criteria: Participate in reviews, document findings, and provide green/yellow/red readiness status at all launch gates — unresolved EH&S risks are launch blockers
  • Log, classify, and resolve incidents: Log, classify, and resolve all pre-SOP safety events, near misses, and SMI-105s; trend findings into risk registers and updated design standards; drive A3s on systemic risks through closure
  • Update UPE design guidelines: Update UPE design guidelines, EEM standards, and launch checklists with learnings from each program; identify gaps as new powertrain technologies emerge

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Safety, Environmental, Engineering, or Science:
  • Minimum THREE (3) years EH&S experience in manufacturing:
  • Minimum TWO (2) years supporting equipment launches or capital programs:
  • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ISO 45001 / 14001:
  • Lockout / Energy Control, chemical management (ETI or equivalent), incident reporting:
  • SFMEA / risk matrix proficiency:
  • Microsoft Office; familiarity with EH&S/MES systems:
  • Travel flexibility; any-shift availability:
  • Experience tracking safety and ergonomic launch milestones across program phases:

Skills

  • Training and coaching: Train and coach UPE engineers and launch teams on safety-by-design, Lockout / Energy Control, ETI-103/ETI-101, and ergonomics; serve as EH&S liaison to plant EH&S, corporate WHS, and corporate environmental throughout each launch
