About the Role

The Aircraft Mechanic performs a variety of simple to moderately complex tasks on airplane general, airframe, and powerplant systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance on aircraft, including mechanical systems, avionics, and/or ground support equipment.
  • Repair, inspect, and maintain structural, mechanical, and electrical elements of the aircraft.
  • Use and train others in the use of diagnostics devices, computers, hand, and mechanical tools.
  • Provide oversight and direct/train others in completing aircraft-related maintenance tasks.
  • Perform Designated System Inspector (DSI) duties as required.
  • Troubleshoot systems to meet customer needs.
  • Document maintenance per Quality Assurance (QA) and established regulatory requirements.
  • Perform regular Foreign Object Damage (FOD) walks and maintain tool control.
  • Report missing, lost, found, or unattended tools to the supervisor.
  • Inventory and inspect tools regularly; replace worn or broken tools.
  • Comply with safety rules and regulations; report accidents, injuries, or unsafe practices promptly.
  • Use NASA’s automated maintenance data system (NAMIS) to maintain equipment records and verify work performed.
  • Assemble structural parts and components to preserve structural integrity.
  • Perform aircraft corrosion control, including washing, cleaning, corrosion detection, removal, metal treatment, and touch-up painting.
  • Perform other related duties as required to meet organizational needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airplane and/or Powerplant certification or special skills/certifications may be required.
  • 3+ years of aircraft maintenance experience with fixed-wing commercial, Government, or DoD aircraft.
  • Experience supporting a NASA/DoD contract.
  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.
  • May be required to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Capable of climbing on and off aircraft, lifting up to 25 lbs. overhead, standing for extended periods, and walking up to 2 miles per day.

Skills

  • Beginner to intermediate computer skills, specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional software.
  • Ability to enter data accurately into databases.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with management, staff, and crew members.
  • Proficiency with general office equipment (fax, phone, copier, scanner, printers).
  • Strong customer service skills, including active listening and follow-up.
  • Strong decision analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate issues to management and understand corporate policies/procedures.
  • Basic mathematical computation skills.
  • High degree of self-motivation and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to multi-task.

Preference will be given to Calista shareholders, their descendants, spouses of shareholders, and shareholders of other corporations created under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act.
