About the role
The EEO Investigator supports the agency's equal employment opportunity and diversity, equity, and inclusion goals by conducting investigations regarding complaints of discrimination and sexual harassment, fielding requests for reasonable accommodations, preparing all required reports in support of the EEO Office, and providing training and education to agency employees.
Responsibilities
- Compose investigative plans, which include deciding which witnesses to interview, outlining which questions to ask, and planning which documents to request and how to acquire said documents;
- Interview witnesses to obtain complete and thorough responses to questions;
- Write Investigative Reports and make recommendations to the Chief Diversity Officer and Deputy EEO Officer based on their investigatory findings;
- Manage caseload of investigations involving complaints of discrimination, sexual harassment, and retaliation, etc;
- Collaborate with both internal and external partners on investigations;
- Assist in the development and delivery of all classroom and computer-based EEO and Diversity & Inclusion trainings;
- Ensure training materials are routinely updated to reflect any changes in the law;
- Conduct other duties as are necessary to comply with EEO regulations, and other internal and external policies;
- Support ALL the work of the EEO Office, including that related to its Diversity & Inclusion goals, if necessary.
Requirements
- Admission to the New York State Bar;
- One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; or
- Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).
Qualifications
- One year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment for AL II;
- Two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment for AL III.
Preferred Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations and guidelines related to labor and employment and affirmative action;
- Ability to analyze and interpret Agency rules and regulations, as well as laws and other pertinent guidelines relating to the HR specializations of classification, staffing, labor relations, and employee relations;
- A thorough understanding of mediation processes and techniques (e.g., negotiation and arbitration);
- Strong people skills, impartiality and the ability to protect confidential information;
- Proficiency in completing tasks on a computer, which includes having a strong working knowledge of MS Outlook and Office Suite;
- Prior proven ability to manage a large workload within tight time constraints and complete tasks in a timely manner;
- Ability to address problems and obtain solutions in dealing with both internal and external issues;
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgment;
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities;
- Establish and maintain working relationships with a diverse population of staff;
- Proven ability to work independently;
- Proven written and verbal communication skills;
- Maintain confidentiality - a must.
