Responsibilities

  • Perform head measurement/marking according to the international 10-20 measuring system and accurately place and secure electrodes.
  • Acquire satisfactory EEG recordings according to ACNS guidelines.
  • Fix electrodes, perform activation procedures such as HV and Photic, disconnect and move patients, and set up rooms.
  • Perform routine and portable EEGs on any patient independently.
  • Perform ECOG, ictal-SPECT, PET, WADA, surgical EEG language and motor mappings, LTM, Ambulatory and ICU video EEG monitoring under general supervision.
  • Participate in EEG rounds and EEG reviews.
  • Train new staff/students.
  • Perform measurement checkoffs.
  • Alert supervisor and/or activate hospital systems, such as rapid response, cardiac arrest, etc., per established protocols when encountering patient clinical issues. Follow the seizure action plan.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

General supervision is received from a Clinical Supervisor or staff physician. Assists in the training of new staff members/students and as directed from the Technical Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Electroencephalographic Technologist Registered (Certified) or Electroencephalograph Technologist Non-Registered.
  • High school graduation with basic science course work or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • R.EEG T. Certification by the American Board of Registration for Electroencephalographic Technologist (for Registered role).
  • Basic knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the body.
  • Eligibility or certification by the American Board of Registration for Electroencephalographic Technologist. Must obtain credentials within the eligible pathway timeframe, calculated from the date of hire, to continue employment.

Qualifications

  • Reasonable experience as an EEG Technician (for Registered role).
  • Satisfactory completion of college courses in the physiological and biological sciences is desirable (for both roles).
  • Satisfactory completion of an accredited program in END Technology is highly desirable (for Non-Registered role).

Schedule

  • 10-hour shifts with rotation every other weekend.
  • Schedule: Saturday, Monday, Thursday 8:30p-7a (Variable), 30 hours per week.
  • Mandatory holiday rotation.
  • Participation in 24-hour on-call schedule and overtime as assigned. Mandatory overtime may be possible.
  • Training and orientation will occur primarily Monday through Friday during the day shift 7a-5:30p before being deployed to weekend rotation schedule.

This position may be underfilled with a graduate non-certified candidate. ABRET certification is required within 2 years of date of hire.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP).
