About the Role

This position involves performing neurodiagnostic testing, including EEGs and sleep studies, while ensuring high-quality patient care and adherence to professional standards.

Responsibilities

  • Verify insurance requirements, medical orders, and protocols.
  • Complete and verify documentation for each patient encounter.
  • Explain procedures and orient patients to the Sleep & Neurodiagnostic Center.
  • Prepare, calibrate, and adjust equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards (e.g., 10/20 EEG hookup).
  • Perform physiologic calibrations to ensure accurate signal collection.
  • Conduct positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting and setup as needed.
  • Follow procedural protocols for EEG tests, home studies, and other neurodiagnostic procedures.
  • Establish and document baseline values during "lights out" procedures (e.g., body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates).
  • Perform EEG data acquisition while monitoring and adjusting for artifact-free signals.
  • Document routine observations, including sleep stages, clinical events, and procedural changes.
  • Verify data integrity during "lights on" procedures and complete the data collection process.
  • Provide age-specific care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Learn to score sleep/wake stages using professionally accepted guidelines, if required.
  • Adhere to the L.O.V.E. Promise and deliver patient services at the highest level of quality.
  • Act as a caregiver and patient educator, ensuring clear communication with patients and staff.
  • Participate in community outreach to inform the public about sleep disorders.
  • Collaborate with the Sleep & Neurodiagnostic Center Director and other staff.

Requirements

  • Knowledgeable with Natus Software and able to register/charge patients in Meditech.
  • Effective communication with patients and staff, maintaining a professional attitude.
  • Ability to perform 10/20 EEG hookup and follow published standards for electrode/sensor application.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and technical skill for providing competent, comprehensive patient care.
  • Registered EEG Technologist (R.EEG T.) strongly preferred; EEG credentialing may be required within a specified timeframe.
  • May need to meet education requirements to become a registered technologist, including passing the EEG Exam or equivalent (e.g., ABRET Neurodiagnostic Credentialing).
  • Mandatory annual continuing education in Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Confidentiality-HIPAA, Infection Control, Corporate Compliance, and unit-specific competencies.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Assist ambulatory patients independently and transfer patients using mechanical lifts (up to 500 lbs with assistance).
  • Lift up to 50 lbs independently; use mechanical devices or team lifting for weights over 50 lbs.
  • Perform repetitive movements, including squatting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling for more than two-thirds of the day.
  • Push/pull patients up to 250 lbs in wheeled devices; use team assistance for weights over 250 lbs.
  • Stand, walk, and maintain physical activity for extended periods.
  • Vision requirements: close, distant, and peripheral vision with ability to adjust focus (e.g., reading thermometers, electronic scales).
  • Hearing requirements: respond to codes, monitors, pagers, phones, alarms, and patient calls; auscultate blood pressure.
  • Participate in an on-call schedule and drive to events, conferences, or patient homes as needed.
  • Work in a high-stress environment with chronically ill patients of all ages.
