Job Description OLD COLONY Y JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Instructor, OCC Community Justice Support Center CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: Director, OCC CJSC JOB SUMMARY: The Instructor is responsible for planning and implementing ASE curriculum, schedules and has oversight for HiSet testing, maintains accurate educational records for each participant and provides quality educational services at the Center. S/he will display and encourage the character traits of honesty, respect, caring and responsibility in the fulfillment of all job duties. Job Function Program/Department Responsibility: Ø Develop and implement ASE classes and individual goals. Ø Provide individual and classroom instruction as needed. Ø Administer TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) tests. Score tests and ensure records are maintained in educational files. Ø Responsible for completing an educational assessment on all new participants. Ø Assess the educational abilities of participants and assist in appropriate placement. Ø Provide a safe learning environment utilizing motivational interviewing strategies. Ø Work closely with colleges/universities that administer HiSet exams. Ø Ensure the timely registration of Center participants who are eligible to take the HiSet exam. Ø Provide academic support and tutoring. Ø Assist participants with College Admissions FAFSA applications as needed. Ø Responsible for verification of participant’s high school diploma, GED or HiSet. Ø Facilitate computer skills/keyboarding classes. Ø Facilitate financial and life skills groups as needed. Ø Collection and documentation of urine screens as needed. Ø Other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor(s). Supervision of Personnel: None Fiscal Responsibility: Adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures such as petty cash, purchase orders, vouchers and employee expenses as requested. Facility/Housekeeping Responsibility: Ensure that the Instructor’s office and classrooms meet the highest standards of cleanliness and maintenance. Interdivisional/Community/Volunteer Responsibility Ø Attend all assigned meetings. Ø Actively participate in the Y’s Annual Campaign. Education/Experience/Physical Requirements Ø Master’s degree preferred or Bachelor’s degree and minimum 2 years of experience in a related field. Ø Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ø Strong, enthusiastic commitment to helping participants develop the skills needed to successfully complete the HiSet. Ø A proven ability to work well in a multi-racial/cultural setting with high risk population. Ø Computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams). Ø Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License and good driving record. Ø Must submit and pass drug testing upon hire. Ø A minimum of one evening shift per week is required. Ø Some traveling required for meetings and trainings Ø Must be able to walk, sit, stand during the work day.
