About the role

The Educational Interpreter plays a crucial role in facilitating communication and ensuring accessibility for students and staff who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Responsibilities

• Participate in educational team meetings to develop and review Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
• Provide interpreting services to help students access the curriculum.
• Convey all auditory, verbal, and environmental information during school activities.
• Handle voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice translation.
• Offer cued speech transliteration.
• Support communication during various school events, both during and outside school hours.
• Mentor new interpreters.
• Prepare for assignments.
• Provide in-service education.
• Serve as a resource on sign language and cultural understanding.
• Assist deaf or hard of hearing employees during professional activities.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional ethical standards.
